Pupils ‘Have a Go’ at Oakfield High School

Following the successful completion of the new build works to the Sports Hall at Oakfield High School for Wigan Council, we organised a ‘Have a Go’ day to let a group of Year 9 pupils try out a number of various trades.

With the assistance of our supply chain, the pupils got to try their hand at painting, bricklaying, plumbing and joinery.

Business Development Manager, Mike Tyler said “This has been a fantastic way of engaging with the kids and the school. A number of them will never get a chance to try any of the tasks again. It has inspired confidence in their ability to undertake something new while being controlled and fun. We have undertaken a number of events now with the School with the staff and pupils being very receptive and willing”.

All pupils who took part were given certificates which they could keep within their school file and later show to prospective employers.

We have a strong social value policy and we aim to leave a legacy on each project completed.

The day ended with some fantastic comments from pupils and lots of budding painters!
