Hardy Mill School, Bolton

The Hardy Mill Primary school project consists of a series of new extensions and the remodelling of the existing school on behalf of Bolton Borough Council School Services.

The school will be fully operational during the construction period, the project was divided into agreed phases with the school, with the remodelling of the existing school being carried out over the summer break period.

The first two phases consisted of a series of extensions, with the first phase forming a temporary dining area and temporary school entrance. These where of traditional steel frame and brick/block construction, with a series of built up roof systems that tied into the existing roofs. The first phase also consisted of forming the new car park which enabled our contractor’s site establishment to be positioned away from the school buildings.

The next phase was again of traditional construction which formed the new entrance, administration rooms and a number of classrooms. This also included a high level of mechanical and electrical services including under floor heating and roof mounted wind catchers, which contributed towards the local authority and the school’s green policy.

The following phase consisted of a challenging 8 week remodelling period of the existing school during the summer break. This comprised of internal demolition, new brick/block and partition walls, plasterwork, new mechanical and electrical services and a series of finishes including ceilings, decoration, floor finishes, toilet cubicles, storage cupboards and decoration. The remodelling phase also consisted of a number of external works including footpaths, railings, fencing and alterations/resurfacing of the playgrounds. The final phase again consists of a new single storey traditional classroom extension and remodelling of the temporary school entrance from the previous phases.
